What is happening
The former Plough Inn at Brockley Green closed in October 2024. The new owners have renovated the building and are marketing it as “The Plough Country Lodge” — a private hire venue for weddings and events, with accommodation for guests. A wedding reception was already held on site in June 2026.
A public house is a special planning use (sui generis). Changing it to an events venue requires planning permission. No application has been made, yet the use has begun.
Why individual complaints matter
The council will not treat a campaign letter as seriously as separate, individual enforcement complaints from residents. Each complaint must come from a named person and reflect their own concerns — but the process does not have to be difficult.
Our online tool prepares a unique complaint for you in about three minutes. You can read and edit every word before it is sent to the council.

- The site is on a narrow lane with a double blind bend — event traffic raises serious safety concerns.
- The parish council has applied to list the building as an Asset of Community Value (pending).
- The same owners already operate Suffolk Retreats, a similar venue about a mile away.
- National planning policy and West Suffolk’s Local Plan protect community facilities such as pubs.
